By some reason, I kinda start liking the retro stuff (or simply I’m becoming old), specially with what I saw on the WWDC, besides the new programming language I see very few innovation. Just another iteration more on the previous innovation. No disruptive innovation since iPhone 4 (i think).
Putting things aside, this post is to show you how to get MATE Desktop on the old, but reliable, Slackware 14.1. Kinda easy, go to this site http://mateslackbuilds.github.io/ and then download the msb-master.zip file from https://github.com/mateslackbuilds/msb once you have the file uncompressed, run in the following order these scripts:
- mate-build-deps.sh
- mate-build-base.sh
- mate-build-extra.sh
And that’s it, it will download the source for building MATE, create the packages and install them.
